Amazing Grace
American folk song - arr. Michael Mauldin
A simply wonderful arrangement for the beginning treble or male ensemble.
The piano sets the mood in this lilting setting of the Cantate Domino
text. Musically rewarding for the singers, this setting would be appropriate
for any group, SA or TB.
In the style of a South African freedom song.Easy
choral writing and a narrator soloist provide an uplifting experience.
The words may be altered to suit the occasion, be it Christmas or a special
celebration. The music builds to a dramatic climax. Wonderful way to close
a program.
A piece to challenge and refresh the more advanced male ensemble. The
counter-tenor solo rides above the four lower parts. Melodic writing in
all parts combine to create pleasing and sometimes striking contemporary
harmonies. The result: an extraordinary piece for the male choir.
The tuba opens this setting with a simple rendition
of the melody. Later as the piece progresses and the choral writing gets
more involved, the tuba is there to help build the drama.
