Dr. Isaacson’s catalog lists over 600 publications of original music, arrangements, orchestrations, and methods for diverse instrumental and choral ensembles. He has presented, lectured, and moderated in educational forums spanning elementary school assemblies through graduate university seminars and has created music for major museum permanent exhibitions. He served on the faculties of SUNY, UCLA, Cal State, Long Beach, and Loyola Marymount. He earned a Ph.D. in Composition from The Eastman School of Music.
For forty years, Michael Isaacson has composed and produced featured music, songs and dramatic underscoring for most of the major television and film studios in Los Angeles. In this capacity he has taken initial ideas and, after collaborative conferences, successfully realized them from start to finish. Isaacson’s music is heard on mini-series (Rich Man Poor Man II, Little Women), soaps (Days of Our Lives, Loving), series Hawaii Five-O, Charlie’s Angels, Love Boat, The Nanny, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and many movies of the week. He has orchestrated, conducted and arranged for John Williams, Elmer Bernstein, Alex North, Walter Scharf and many other fine composers. For several years Dr. Isaacson authored a film music composition column for the Society of Composers and Lyricists journal The Score. Michael Isaacson has over fifty distributed albums and CDs to his producing, composing and conducting credit.
ASCAP, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the Schubert Foundation, the Milken Family Foundation, the Eastman School of Music, the International Cantors Assembly, and several philanthropic organizations have recognized his artistic achievements. Aside from his individual music and Journal articles, he is the author of The Michael Isaacson Songbook Volume I, II, and III a collection of 160 of his most performed works along with companion CDs published by Transcontinental Music. His book Jewish Music As Midrash: What Makes Music Jewish? published by ECM along with two CDs of his musical examples bundled in with the book. It is now in its third printing.
