Number one of Four Marian Antiphons, the composer was drawn to these texts because, as he states, each is a desperate plea for a peace that constantly eludes us, a plea that reaches across the boundaries of ethnicity and religion. Brennen Maynard was a student at the Northern Arizona University while I served as Director of Choral Activities and will be remembered as a fine student and wonderful musician and singer. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of Brennen's Lullabye will be used to support the Brennan Maynard Choral Scholarship at NAU.

traditional African American folk song arranged by Koepke
The composer has achieved great notoriety for his spiritual arrangements; his fans will delight to discover another great one. This setting is poignant with its message, and highly rhythmic in its design as it and builds to a dramatic conclusion. The text contains coded lyrics as is typical of many spirituals; their significance and meaning is documented in the printed score.

Gabriel’s Message
traditional, arr. Joshua Shank
Notes from the composer:
I see this carol as a scene: Mary sits in the dark when light gently breaks in the room as the angel Gabriel reveals himself and slowly unfolds his wings. (The opening phrase is meant to convey this.) The rest of the piece is essentially a quiet waltz of profound, inner joy between the angel and the maiden.

Long Time Trav’ling
Sacred Harp tunes, arr. Abbie Betinis
This piece is a real musical trip! Adding excitement to the choral rendition are two tenors who join in at the beginning as they ride high-flying above the choir. Reflecting the shape-note performance tradition, the composer next cleverly weaves solfege syllables into the fabric of the tunes; and in one section, we hear the distant sounds of a chain gang creating an underlay to the song. There’s a whole lot happening here. Singers will love this piece.
