Ellen Fishman-Johnson (b. 1961) studied music composition at San Francisco State University, University of California, Berkeley, the Peabody Conservatory, and at the Conservatoire Americain de Fontainebleau. She composes for both traditional and electronic ensembles, and has excelled at creating multimedia presentations.
Dr. Fishman-Johnson was named an Apple Distinguished Educator in 2007 for her innovative use of technology in the classroom. At the National Educators Computing Conference (NECC) in June 2008, she gave a presentation on technological approaches to teaching music composition. She teaches music and video production at Springside School, a private girls school in Philadelphia. In 2004, she created an intensive composition workshop for girls in Philadelphia funded by the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Composers Forum. The Music Composition Workshop for Girls was featured in a Philadelphia Inquirer article in March 2006 and again in November 2007.
