 Josh Sparkman

Josh Sparkman (b. 1993) is a composer and music educator working in West Hartford, CT. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in music education from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. While there, he studied piano with Peter Davis in addition to taking lessons in composition and voice. Josh also has a master’s degree in composition from The Hartt School in West Hartford, CT, where his professors at Hartt included Larry Alan Smith and Robert Carl. 

Josh served as the New Haven Chorale’s composer-in-residence for their 2018-19 season, seeing four premieres while in this role. Josh also has several choral pieces published with reputable publishers, and in 2015 he received second place in the John Ness Beck Foundation Choral Composition Contest for his piece, “I Lay My Sins on Jesus."

Currently, Josh is the assistant pastor at Farmington Avenue Baptist Church in West Hartford, in addition to his roles as piano teacher and composer.
