Frank J. La Rocca
A composer of contemporary art music, and especially sacred choral music, FRANK LA ROCCA (born 1951 in New Jersey) was educated at Yale and the University of California at Berkeley (Ph.D 1981 in Music).
His awards and honors include an NEA Composer Fellowship, a California State Artist Fellowship, ASCAP Young Composer’s Award, and a Special Commendation in the ASCAP/Nissim Orchestral Competition. In recent years, La Rocca’s choral music has been performed at the National Cathedral, 7th World Choral Symposium in Kyoto, Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, and in England, Scotland, Portugal, Canada, Brazil, Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, Latvia and Australia.
His music can be heard in recordings by the San Francisco Girls Chorus, Cardinal Singers of Louisville University, Vanguard Voices, Prague Radio Orchestra and Chorus and the Cathedral Choral Society.
A founding member, past Executive Director and current Artistic Director of COMPOSERS, INC. of San Francisco, La Rocca teaches composition at California State University, East Bay, where he is Professor Emeritus.
