Choongwoo Steve Ko
Choongwoo Steve Ko (b. 1985) holds a DMA in Choral Conducting from the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied with Dr. J.D. Burnett and Dr. Suzanne Pence. Prior to his DMA degree, Ko taught choir and musical from the 6th grades to the 12th grade at Keswick Christian School, in St. Petersburg, FL. As a conductor, Ko has directed University Tenor/Bass Chorus, Belleville Community Chorus, University Chorus at University of Southern California and many others including church choirs. Also, he gives clinics to various secondary school choirs and church choirs in the United States and South Korea. Ko prolifically composes mainly choral and vocal music based on his biculturalism as Korean and American. His music is being published and sold through Seoul Chorus Center in South Korea and his award winning composition, A Thousand Winds is being published through Hinshaw Music. Ko’s composition teachers include Ms. Hyowon Woo, Ms. Byunghee Oh, and Dr. Morten Lauridsen. He earned his Master in Music in Choral Music at University of Southern California where Ko studied with Dr. Jo-Michael Scheibe, Dr. Tram Sparks, and Dr. Nick Strimple, Bachelor of Science in Music at Eastern Michigan University, and Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Electrical Engineering at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor.
