A Walt Whitman text inspired this dramatic piece. It lends itself to interesting staging possibilities as it begins with an antiphonal second choir echoing choir one. Next a four-part homophonic middle section adds contrast, then it concludes with a dramatic recapitulation of the opening. This would be a special opener for a concert.
