CoverCricket-Stars [level: Easy]
Kevin T. Padworski: Bio and other works | Robyn Lana Choral Series
voicing: SSA | catalog number: SBMP 1586 | price: $2.50
accompaniment: piano, percussion

The delightful poem is introduced by the sounds of a wood-block here disguised as a cricket. A rhythmic piano joins in, and then the piece takes off with the addition of three melodic voice parts telling the tale. This is both classy and fun and is likely to be the hit of a program.

ALL night the crickets chirp,
Like little stars of twinkling sound
in the dark silence.

They sparkle through the summer stillness
With a crisp rhythm;
They lift the shadows on their tiny voices.

But at the shining note of birds that wake,
Flashing from tree to tree till al the wood is lit-
O golden coloratura of dawn!
The cricket-stars fade softly,
One by one.
