This composition is the First Place Winner of our 2020-2021 Rachel Moore Composition Contest. “Breathe" is the product of humanity during a time of disconnection and isolation. The year 2020 brought with it skies of fear and uncertainty, and magnified the importance of personal connection, comfort, and togetherness. During this time, and the many times in our lives that have felt or will inevitably feel similarly, we came to understand just how crucial it was to keep meaningful, honest relationships alive. May this piece remind us all how to sit alongside those swallowed in their own clouds of worry, and breathe.

Though I may not defeat your worry, you and I can breathe.
Together we shall face the world, whatever terrors may unfold.
Though poisoned skies may cloud your journey, still, with you,
I'll breathe.

Breathe, and know the wind will roar.
Do not fear the air. Take it all in deep.
Feel the breath we share.
