“Play me the music I cannot hear…” A beautiful and heart-warming new piece about neurodiversity for Tenor-Bass ensembles with piano accompaniment. Written in the form of a conversation, this popular-song style choral work flows along with plenty of rhythmic interest and dissonant harmonies. As the piece goes on, the audience learns that the “light” being described represents the unseen value of those who are neurodivergent, and that we can work  through this disconnect in communication if we stand together, regardless of cognitive identities.

The Light I Cannot See

"I have an idea.  I have an idea.  I have an idea!  A great idea!"

Tell me a story I cannot know.
Tell me a story, a world I cannot go.
Tell me of struggles and journeys unseen.
The best and the darkest and all in between.
Take my hand, and show to me the light I cannot see.

Play me the music I cannot hear.
Play me the music, a call from somewhere near.
"Always around you, yet somehow unknown..."
But know when you sing, you're not singing alone.
Take my hand, and show to me the light I cannot see.

Somewhere in the dark we will find the key.
"The light you cannot see, the light is in me, in me!"

Tell me your story; I long to hear.
A new idea, a flame that burns so clear.
Standing together we'll weather this night,
And look past our words when they don't come out right.
Hand in hand, while shadows flee from light I cannot see.

"See the light in me."
