The English King leads the hunt to catch a deer, and the town gathers to watch the goings-on. The text, from a sixteenth century ballad, tells the tale first-hand. Composer McKaig calls on the singers to sound the horns to announce the hunt: “hey tantara tee-ree,” and the rousing piece takes off. Colorful and great fun.
