CoverIt Was a Lover and His Lass [level: Medium]
piano accomp.: Mary Ellen Loose - J. Edmund Hughes: Bio and other works | Edith Copley Choral Series
voicing: SATB | catalog number: SBMP 1030 | duration: 4:00 | price: $2.25
accompaniment: piano

This piece can do well on its own merit, or it can be joined by two others in a unique Shakespeare Suite, each piece being for a different voicing. To perform all three, divide the SATB choir, the women getting their turn first with Sigh No More Ladies; next the men perform Take, O Take Those Lips Away; and finally all join in with It Was a Lover and His Lass. Clever writing abounds for both the voices and the piano. Add a bit of staging to make the performance extra special.
Errata in tenor part: Ms 37 and 78 the triplet text should be "ring a ding"

"Lakes High School Studio Chamber Choir has performed this piece along with one of the others from "Shakespeare Suite", "Take, O Take Those Lips Away" at several choral festivals this spring. It has been universally well-received and our soloist in the piece at the Vancouver Heritage Music Festival was the only vocalist to win the Maestro Award, given to outstanding soloists at the festival. The music is singable, entertaining for audiences, and finely crafted. We plan to take the entire suite to The National Invitational Choral Festival of Gold in the spring of 2013."
