CoverChild of Song [level: Medium]
Kim André Arnesen: Bio and other works
voicing: SATB | catalog number: SBMP 1271 | price: $2.05
accompaniment: a cappella

Composed to honor the memory of Steven Paulus, this beautiful, tender song was set to a profound text by Welsh poet Euan Tait. Norwegian composer Arnesen again exhibits his talent for creating great melodic interest and an impressive composition.

Child of Song

Child of song, your music
sang from the bone,
the music of a visceral dancer.
The feral tree in full pearl green new leaf,
squalling water alive around the swimmer,
is touched by your music, will always carry it.
No child of song falls into silence
but into love’s rest
seeded with re-awakening.
Your music, child of song.

by Euan Tait

"As a member of VocalEssence, I had the joy and privilege of singing this gorgeous piece at the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the American Composers Forum on May 14, 2015. A perfect way to honor the life and legacy of Stephen Paulus, and there were few dry eyes in the room. Arnesen's harmonic and melodic sensibilities provide a beautiful musical setting of this text. "
