Lunar Lullaby
Music by Jacob Narverud (2014)
Lyrics by Joshua East & Jacob Narverud (2014)
Adapted from the text "Celestial Child" by Kathleen Nicely
The moon settles in the dusky sky.
The gentle eyes of the north star
rest upon your sleeping face
and the heavens gaze upon you.
In this moment, I know;
You are not from the ground on which you tread,
but of the stars.
You are my radiant, my celestial child.
As night is drown’d by morning
you remain at my side,
accompanying the sunrise
until night swells again across the sky.
Then, dreaming, you return to the stars.

Celestial Child
by Kathleen Nicely (2014)
The moon settles softly in the dusky sky;
the gentle eyes of the North star
and the dewy light of the constellations
rest upon your sleeping face.
Orion will guard you as you lie in the dim light
and Leo will hold you close to his heart.
The heavens gaze upon your fingertips
which settle as a spider’s thread
clinging softly to your airy bedsheets.
Let me whisper ancient reels into your ears,
and brush back the hair from your eyes.
Let me live within your deepest self;
let me live within the beating of your heart,
and the gentle breaths streaming through your lips.
You are my forever in the spinning cosmos,
you are the home I will always return to.
you are more precious than diamonds,
more beautiful than the brushstroke rings on Saturn.
Your value weighs down libra’s scales.
You are my heart’s compass which leads me to myself;
the workings of your heart are like a passing dreamscape-
and your eyes sparkle-
like the dissonance of spontaneous song.
Your voice is like stardust scattering across your teeth.
You are my breath,
you are my child,
you are manifested love,
and you breathe softly in my arms
while the North Star and Orion beckon for the sun.
