The River
It’s been comin’ for a long time now.
I can’t hold back anymore.
When the river rises, and the levee breaks,
You’ll find me standing at your door.
Who will speak for me?
If you can’t see the river’s risin’,
How can you comprehend?
With eyes and ears and spoken word,
Tell them now before the end!
Who will speak for you?
So go ahead and build your walls,
you’ll see how much they can hold
. But you won’t know until the flood comes
And our stories have been told.
I will speak for us.
