Janeal Krehbiel - Lawrence Children's Choir

Janeal Crabb Krehbiel, founder and former director of the Lawrence Children's Choir, is a clinician and festival director for churches and schools throughout the United States. She was a member of the Chorister's Guild Board of Directors for six years, has been the featured clinician at St. Olaf College, Westminster Choir College, Montreal Music Conference, and the North Carolina Summer Instate of the Choral Art. She has held seminars at colleges and universities, directed camps and festivals, and published many articles about choral music for children and youth.

She has taught elementary vocal music in the Denver Public Schools (Colorado), high school vocal music in the Hesston Public Schools (Kansas), and is currently in her tenth year with the Lawrence, Kansas public schools teaching grades 7, 8, and 9 at Southwest Junior High. For eighteen years she served as children's choir director at the Bethel College Mennonite Church.

Janeal is an active member of MENC, KMEA, and is the past president of the Kansas Chapter of ACDA. She organized the Kansas Honors Children's Choir and directs honors choirs for children and junior high students throughout the United States. In July, 1999, Ms. Krehbiel was awarded the Harry Robert Wilson Award by her colleagues in Kansas ACDA in recognition for her outstanding contribution to choral music.

Under Janeal's direction and leadership, the Lawrence Children's Choir  performed Britten's War Requiem, Orff's Carmina Burana, and was the featured choir for the World's Largest Concert on PBS. They also performed for state and regional AGO and MENC conventions, sang for the governor's inauguration, the KANU Goodtime Radio Review, and recorded two CD's: Let Beauty Awake, and Here's to Song. The choir was chosen to perform at the 1999 ACDA National Convention. The choir performed as a featured choir at Carnegie Hall in March, 2000.
